South Tees Development Corporation (STDC)

The South Tees Development Corporation – the first Mayoral Development Corporation outside Greater London – was established by Government in August 2017. It is a public body created to oversee the regeneration of 4,500 acres of industrial land south of the River Tees, following the closure of the SSI Steelworks in Redcar in 2015. Alongside local private sector firms, it forms part of Teesworks Ltd, which is currently driving forward development on the site (known as Teesworks) making it a hotbed for clean energy, advanced manufacturing and AI at the heart of the Teesside Freeport.
